A 5-story building located only a few meters from the Sé, the Cathedral of Lisbon, this emblematic space carried a rich history. Once home to some small businesses and, more recently, a pastry shop, it’s situated in a square named after Santo António, the Patron Saint of Lisbon. Every year on June 13, this charismatic neighborhood transforms itself to celebrate Santo António, and today it is widely recognized for being one of the most sought-after neighbourhoods to stay when visiting our city.
This project is the outcome of a complete rehabilitation of an extremely degraded building. The objective was to preserve its original layout and style, and thus the typical Pombaline architecture, returning to this square all its beauty and luminosity. The roof was rebuilt, the facades, structure and common areas renovated, while the window frames and all infrastructure networks replaced. The stairs and doors were also restored, with much needed lighting introduced.
